Regarding conversion of xls file to csv format

Hi all,
What is the method to convert xls file in csv format using cloud lab for hadoop? I am stuck up while doing the project. Also, how to use curl function? I used it but the file stored is showing garbage values.
Kindly help with this issue. I am stuck up with my project work.
