gedit and pkexec error while editing .bashrc

Hi All,

I have joined elearning course of BigData and Hadoop Developer.
When I tried installing Hadoop on Ubuntu, I was using command
sudo gedit .bashrc which is giving XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not set for the environment error.
Then I tried pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY gedit

But still getting the same error..Not sure how to proceed from here.
Please help ASAP.
